Chinese antenna and electronics specialist Desay SV Europe is expanding and plans to build a European production plant for an electronics and display manufacturing facility. Further projects are in the pipeline.

At the supplier Desay SV Europe, all signs point to growth. For example, the antenna and electronics specialist, which has been part of the Chinese company Desay SV since March 2019, wants to increase the number of its employees by 100 to 300 by the end of the year. The Weimar-based company has been responsible for the entire European market within the parent company since November 2020. "The European market is very important to our parent company," explains Michael Weber, Managing Director of Desay SV Europe. "It is a great advantage for us that Desay SV Automotive Europe has its headquarters in Germany, as European customers want European contacts." Resources for antenna and electronics development are available in both Germany and China, he said.

The center for antenna development is Weimar. The electronics and software platform for the "Smart Antenna" is developed in China and adapted to customer needs by technical specialists at the company's headquarters in Thuringia. According to Weber, product and project management will be "carried out and taken responsibility for in Weimar."  The manager praises the company's foresight. "Desay SV is a company that has staying power and acts very strategically."

Good order situation at antenna and electronics supplier

Weber points to the good order situation for his growth plans. "As Desay SV Europe, we have won a total of 20 projects in the automotive sector in 2021 and 2022."  Among them is an order with a sales volume of 500 million euros. The supplier's competitors in antenna technology include Continental, Joynext and Harman Becker.

Weber expects growth in Europe "above all in the smart cabin sector.“ The topic of driver assistance is also growing significantly in importance for the supplier from Weimar. "The solutions of our parent company will be adapted to the European market in the process." Desay SV Europe will build a European production plant for an electronics and display manufacturing facility before the end of the decade, he said. "Customers want green and robust supply chains. It is important to me to build a European supply chain," Weber says. The company also plans to build a shielded 3-D antenna measurement chamber in Weimar. The facility is scheduled to go into operation in mid-2025. Groundbreaking is scheduled for September 2023.

Pearl of antenna technology

Furthermore, Desay SV Europe is about to open branches in Paris and Mlada Boleslav, he said. "Further locations in close proximity to customers are planned in Spain, Italy and Germany," adds the manager.

An important step for the supplier was the acquisition of Antenna Technology Center, or ATC, at the end of September 2022. "With its high level of measurement expertise plus know-how in antenna development, ATC is a gem in antenna technology," says Weber. The company had previously lacked this kind of measurement technology in the passenger car sector, which covers the entire vehicle and is required by customers.
