Desay SV announced its first 8 transmit and 8 receive (8T8R) 4D millimeter-wave radar which supports satellite architecture. The product has been selected by leading Chinese OEMs for upcoming vehicle programs and is expected to achieve the world’s first mass production of an 8T8R 4D millimeter-wave radar later this year
4D Millimeter-Wave Radar Performance Breakthroughs
The radar adopts an 8T8R waveguide antenna architecture, producing three key performance advancements compared with industry-standard 6T8R solutions:
1. Over 30% better angular resolution — The improved angular resolution enables the accurate separation of closely spaced targets in adjacent lanes, mitigating the point-cloud ambiguity commonly found in conventional radar systems.
2. Approximately 150% higher point cloud density and up to 50% greater range for weakly reflective objects — Combined with waveguide antenna gain, the system improves detection fidelity for weak targets, helping to reduce false-positive detections at the system level and unnecessary AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) activations.
3. Higher interference immunity — Multi-channel coordinated signal processing suppresses electromagnetic interference in complex driving environments, ensuring stable perception in adverse scenarios such as rain, fog, and tunnels.
Despite its compact form factor, the radar substantially improves signal transmission efficiency and point-cloud density. It achieves a maximum detection range exceeding 300 meters, with reliable detection of traffic cones at 120 meters and stationary vehicles at distances of up to 280 meters, exceeding current industry performance benchmarks.
While many solutions in the industry remain focused on individual sensor capabilities, Desay SV leverages its full-stack in-house capabilities and domain-controller integration expertise to enable the fusion of raw sensor data into vehicle-level perception functions at the domain level, delivering OEMs a complete intelligent perception solution. The platform-based design also enables scalable deployment across various vehicle platforms.
Designed for satellite architectures in centralized computing systems, the radar outputs high-fidelity ADC-level raw data directly to the central domain controller, eliminating the need for on-sensor edge processing. This reduces the processing load and frees up computing resources on the domain controller for advanced perception and other vehicle-level tasks. Resulting in a system with lighter sensors, smarter perception, and centralized computing.
The rapid deployment of 4D millimeter-wave radar is enabled by Desay SV’s expertise in RF design, functional safety, and automotive-grade manufacturing, along with deep experience in sensor–domain controller co-development. Continued investment in millimeter-wave radar chip technologies and system integration has resulted in a mature portfolio of 3D and 4D radars, supporting both edge-computing and satellite architectures to meet the needs of vehicle platforms across different cost and computing tiers.
