Antennentechnik Bad Blankenburg GmbH and the energy market service provider co.met GmbH have decided to work closely together in the future. The focus of the planned cooperation is to ensure a reliable communication link for the smart meter gateways of co.met's customers, which must be connected on the WAN side using 4G radio. co.met will act as a value adding reseller of the corresponding ATBB products.

First development projects in September 2018

In the course of a development project in September 2018, the two partners had their first positive points of contact. In view of the very great importance of a reliable WAN communication link between mobile-connected smart meter gateways and the gateway administration system and the key role played by the antenna technology used in this project, the two companies decided to intensify their cooperation.

Antennas decisive for WAN connection

If the rollout is not nationwide, 3G/4G mobile communications is currently usually the first choice when it comes to the WAN connection of the gateways. And here the selection of the right antenna, in addition to the choice of a suitable mobile phone provider, is the essential success factor for a WAN connection that works in practice. And this is where the multifunctional antennas of the Thuringian company ATTB clearly stand out from the multitude of offers. In particular the newest development of the ATBB, a genuinely "smart antenna", which is built integrally into meter cabinets, stands out clearly from everything which the market otherwise offers for this purpose. By an intelligent and thought out integration into the meter cabinet this antenna uses purposefully its metal housing, in order to increase your antenna effective area. The switch cabinet thus turns from the actual damping Faraday cage into the antenna itself. Simply really SMART.

Solution partner for the entire ATBB portfolio

For the multiplicity of further applications co.met will function in the future the entire Portfolio at antenna technology from the house ATBB in the most different designs and characteristics of hat rail up to the external antennas as solution partners.

In order to make the know-how gained easily accessible to customers, there will also be corresponding technical workshops, in which the interaction of ATBB's antenna technology with SMGW and the systems and services of co.met will be taught in a practical and usable way. Among other things, participants will learn the essential basics and elements of optimal data transmission via radio and will be enabled to identify and select the antenna systems optimally suited for their respective smart meter rollout or e.g. Internet of Things projects such as LoRaWAN.
